As you’ve probably read or seen in the news, countless migrant children are being separated from their families at the border. They wait for their parents and siblings in cages not knowing if they will see them again. Majority of these families are from Central America seeking asylum from their country’s violence, gang activity, and poverty. The zero tolerance policy that separates families is cruel, inhumane, and heart breaking separating young children from their loved ones. Even though Trump signed an Executive Order to end the separation, many families are still not reunited with their children.

We come from a nation built by immigrants that should welcome refugees with open arms. We are a melting pot that needs to accept and help others who are fleeing their country as a last resort. If you would like to get involved please call your representative and consider donating to the following causes.

  • American Civil Liberties Union:  Also know as the ACLU, is an organization that helps fight for civil rights and civil liberties. They also defend the denial of immigrant rights. You can sign their petition as well as donate in order to help defend basic human rights.
  • Act Blue: A nonprofit that allows nonprofits to raise money through technology. Please consider donating to any of the campaigns to support children at the border.
  • Urban Justice Center: This organization prevents wrongful deportation by connecting refugee families with legal aid and community support. They ask for volunteers as well as donations.
  • Kids in Need of Defense: Also known as KIND, this national organization provides legal support so that children do not face immigration court alone. You can donate as well as attend fundraisers to help aid defense teams in fighting for children’s civil rights.
