Closet Organizing Tips: The Tricks of the Trade to Be More Organized

July 29, 2018 - 31 Comments

Aimee Song, fashion blogger of Song of Style, shares her tips and tricks to organizing your closet space both big and small.Last year I did a closet tour and seeing as so many of you loved it, I wanted to give more tips on closet organizing for big and small spaces. Every year I get more and more clothes and since getting dressed and being able to find clothes is such an important aspect of my job, I like to have my closet super organized.

1. Velvet hangers are no slip grip and necessary when you need to hang up any nice article of clothing like my Self-Portrait dresses and Frame blouses. I used to have wooden hangers but switched all fo them out for velvet hangers since they are also thin, meaning I can hang more things.Aimee Song, fashion blogger of Song of Style, shares her tips and tricks to organizing your closet space both big and small.2. Stack your denim and sweaters! I mentioned this in my previous closet video but I always fold and stack my sweaters as hanging them will leave imprints on your sweater (because we know I love my Frame straight leg jeans, GRLFRND denim skirts, and Levi’s distressed shorts just as much as the next girl). If you fold your jeans in threes, this allows you to stack one on top of the other. I like to organize my denim by shade and type.

3. For shoe storage in smaller spaces, shoe racks can come in handy. Since I have a built in closet, I don’t use shoe racks anymore but in my previous spaces, I’ve used either these shoe racks or cubbies. Having a dedicated space for your clothes and items make it easier for you to stay organized.Aimee Song, fashion blogger of Song of Style, shares her tips and tricks to organizing your closet space both big and small.4. For jewelry, I am the most disorganized, but what is my saving grace when it comes to storage is putting jewelry trays in my drawers. Also, these work great for nightstands (like this Anthropologie nightstand) if you store your jewelry (like pearl earrings) in them. I’ve also used wine bottles as bracelet holders.

5. My last trick for you guys is to get hidden hooks in your closet. This way you can hang some of your clothes on the side of your closet. If you’re out of room, you can also invest in a stylish and functional clothing rack. Personally, this Urban Outfitters white clothing rack is a sleek design or this West Elm garment rack.
