Inspiration New York Outfit Song of Style

24 Hours in NYC & Satin Roundup

Yes, this photo was taken in January in New York City. Yes, I was cold. Very very cold. But I really wanted to show off how beautiful this DVF ruffled silk top is and sometimes you just gotta make sacrifices for the photo! You couldn’t really see the top underneath the coat I was wearing, so off it went. I’m really loving what Jonathan Saunders is doing for DVF. This skirt and wide leg satin pant look was the perfect way to dress appropriately for winter, while still allowing me to hold on to my favorite summer pieces. I’m wearing a DVF wrap skirt, Vince wide leg pants, and Louis Vuitton boots (affordable version here).
When I put my outfits together, I love mixing things up with color and texture. I spent the winter months adding lots of velvet to my wardrobe, but I also like pieces to be versatile enough to wear during more than one season. Velvet can be heavy, so the pieces I added to my winter wardrobe will be too warm in the spring. Satin is perfect because it’s lightweight but luxe, so you can wear it pretty much all year round, and adding certain pieces to your wardrobe will make the perfect transition from winter to spring.
The main reason I was in New York was to speak at the Financo Forum on a panel about the power of social media. This was definitely different than any other time I’ve spoken, because usually I’m speaking to you guys who already get it! At the Financo Forum, I was speaking to a bunch of big CEOs which was definitely intimidating, but I’m so happy to have gotten the experience.  Also because I was in NY for only 24 hours, I packed the bare minimum (just my airport outfit, underwear, and key beauty products). On my skin I’m wearing my go to Laura Mercier Rose oil (I usually wear a toner and essence too but since I don’t have a travel sized version at the moment, I skipped those steps), Context intensive daily moisturizer with SPF 15 that I got from Revolve and Laura Mercier silk creme moisturizing photo edition foundation because I find it very moisturizing during super dry winter months. I didn’t even put primer or do any contour and jumped right into my eyes using the Eye Art Caviar Colour-Inspired Palette. Then I used my Bonne Mine Stick cheeks and this time didn’t even use my any lipstick, but just used my favorite lip pencil in Hazelnut Tea. Then I finished with my eyebrows, using the eyebrow pencil in Warm Brunette.

  2. Finally someone who says the true and admits to having been cold during her shooting. Sometimes I watch others fashion blogger’s posts and I don’t neither know if the pictures they post were taken recently or not. Others times they seem just so fake. Thank you Aimee for your sincerity. Sometimes we just need that. :)

Sorry if there is any mistake, I am not native English speaker. I just wanted to share my thoughts. Nice pictures! ;)

  3. Firstly – I am so glad I”m not the only one who sacrifices my personal warmth for the photo and clearly it’s worth it cause your outfit is beautiful! I love the way you’ve mixed texture and ruffle and the way you’v layered the bottom! Gorgeous

The conference sounded like a fantastic experience!

  4. Glad to hear that the meeting went well Aimee! :) It’s always intimidating to talk to professionals outside of your own profession, but it’s definitely a great experience nonetheless! Loving this gorgeous outfit! <3 Haha and yes, I agree that sometimes, there are just sacrifices that we have to make for photos!

    XO, Elizabeth

  5. I was going to ask if you were cold wearing that (tehe) but to be honest I would’ve done the same! That blouse is super pretty, and I loved how you matched the blue with the flowers on the skirt.
