How to easily go lighter if you have color treated brunette hair

aimee_song_of_style_hairAs a brunette, my hair color has always been important to me especially when it comes to coloring and highlights. If you have brunette hair, you can understand the struggle of trying to maintain the color you like while avoiding making it looking flat or lack-luster. I was approached by the John Frieda® Hair Care team to try their new Brilliant Brunette® Visibly Brighter™ collection for a blog post but before I agreed to do it, I wanted to try it out first and make sure it actually worked and I’m really happy with the results. Those who follow me on snapchat probably already saw the process which is super simple. They come in the form of a shampoo, conditioner and an instant in-shower treatment. I only used the shampoo and conditioner this time, which gradually make your hair brighter after a few washes. I’m noticing a subtle but definite change in my hair color. I’ll admit, I was a little nervous at first because using any new color enhancing product on your hair can be scary! Especially since mine is already color-treated. I really like the way it made the brunette brighter and enhanced the highlights that were already there. I would say the highlights are more golden and thankfully not orange. So far I’ve washed my hair three times with these products and can visibly see the difference. I love my hairstylist Cherin and she’s the only one I trust my hair color with but with my schedule, getting to the salon isn’t so easy so this is a great way to get a subtle boost without spending a fortune.

  7. I feel like this is the struggle brunettes live with – dark or light? I know I’m alway going back and forth between chocolate brown and sun-kissed golden. I also use JF tinted gloss between treatments – keeps my hair shiny and blends the outgrowth.

You should try the Aveda Blue Malva conditioner. It’s a toner conditioner and takes away any brassiness from brunette hair right after you use it. I have a smattering of blonde/brown highlights in with naturally black hair and without Blue Malva products, it can get kinda orangina, especially if I go more than 2 days without washing it….which i sometimes do.

    Try it out!

  10. Ooh I used to use the John Frieda spray for blondes, and it really helps to lighten brunette hair! I only used it for a week, and my hair was a few shades lighter :) This new brunette line sounds amazing though <3 Can't wait to try it, especially as we get closer and closer to summer! You look so pretty!

  11. I love these types of products. I used to use a foam when I was younger that made my hair a lot lighter but now it’s not sold anymore. It worked so well (even if it was bad for my hair) & my hair was always super soft from it. I might have to check out these products now.

  12. John Frieda is the shampoo that I always go back to! I recently purchased the Highlight Activating one , although it’s been couple of washes I can already see that it’s working – crazy!! Also, LOVE how you wore that shirt, Aimee – looking absolute beaut!

  13. I’ve never heard of this product so thank you for sharing!! I too love the backwards shirt trend that you are rocking here! What a cool way to show off your hair! I just bought an open back knit from Boohoo that has buckles so you can wear it open or closed <3 I love your tattoo as an accessory. I think open back tops look especially great with beautiful layered jewellery too so I'm gonna share an OOTD post showing just that! Jade x

  14. I’ve actually just thought about if I should buy it or if it’s a total waste of money so this post comes in handy :) My hair is similar to yours and with spring/summer approaching I love a little lighter hair.

  17. I love changes! I cut my hair every now and than. Actually I cuttet it right yesterday from pretty long hair to a short bob, haha. But considering the color I am always pretty unsure like I am scared that the structure of my hair can be ruined.. So this shampoo set is the perfect alternative for me! I am definitely gonna try it!
